Description

Drawing inspiration from an American girandole (1817)—a type of ornamental candleholder popular during the nation’s Federal period (1788–1825)—this mirror features an antiqued gold finish and convex mirror glass. The intricate eagle finial and candle arms reflect the decoration on the original in The Met collection, illuminating any room with timeless elegance.

HISTORIC PROVENANCE

The Mirror Girandole echoes the elegance of a girandole (1817) in The Met collection, made for the Albany townhouse of Stephen Van Rensselaer IV (American, 1786–1868). Popular during the American Federal period (1788–1825), girandoles featured candle arms that extend from the frame, allowing light to reflect off the convex mirror and illuminate the room. Our interpretation of the mirror captures the timeless sophistication of the original in The Met collection.
